Mark was an excellent instructor. He was methodical in covering all areas of instruction, and his occasional use of the Socratic method (i.e., asking me what steps I thought should be taken) helped to engrain the learning. Having sailed most of my life, I was already familiar with much of the underlying material. Nevertheless, there were gaps in my knowledge, and Mark helped fill these as well as explain the significant differences between sailing monohulls and catamarans.
A few words about the condition of his vessel, Calpyso. Without question, this was the nicest sailboat I've ever been on, and I've been on quite a few. He had top notch electronics, including a Starlink receiver, a watermaker/desalinator, an ice machine, and composting heads. The boat felt like it was brand new, and I felt like I was at a 4-star hotel rather than aboard a sailboat.
Mark's wife was also a delight, assisting in the training and making my own wife feel more comfortable and competent as crew.
My wife and I had an incredible 9-day experience with Captain Mark and Sharon on their stunning 48' Leopard sailing catamaran "Calypso" in the USVI & BVI. We participated in their "Try-A-Catamaran" program and NauticEd Bareboat Charter Master/SLC training and assessments. We were thoroughly impressed by their exceptional teaching ability, extensive knowledge, competence, professionalism, patience, and demeanor. Calypso was well-maintained and equipped with everything one could need on such an adventure. The experience on Calypso was outstanding. We were amazed by the magnificence of the islands, and it all exceeded our expectations. Whether you're considering "trying-a-catamaran" or want to get trained/assessed for your NauticEd credentials, Captain Mark and Sharon are your ideal instructors. They are very accommodating and will ensure a safe and amazing experience you will never forget. We look forward to continuing our newfound nautical friendship with both of them!
We had an amazing experience with Captain Mark and Sharon! During our trip, Captain Mark evaluated us for our NauticEd assessments. We also got the opportunity to participate in a "Try a Catamaran" sailing adventure around the USVI and BVI. Not only were they incredibly hospitable and friendly, but they also made us feel at home while teaching us how to work together as a couple. Sharon's presence on board was an added bonus, providing me with a woman's perspective. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time with Captain Mark and Sharon and highly recommend them for any catamaran charters!
A Fantastic Sailing Lessons/Experience with an Amazing Married Couple - Calypso Sailing!
My husband, Chris, and I recently had the privilege of embarking on a remarkable sailing adventure with a wonderful married couple who not only taught us the art of sailing a catamaran but also demonstrated the importance of teamwork and partnership in every aspect of life. Our journey with them was nothing short of exceptional, and we can't thank them enough for their generosity and expertise.
From the moment we met this couple and stepped onboard their vessel, it was evident that they had a profound love for sailing and a genuine desire to share their passion with others. What truly set them apart was their unique teaching style - they offered us not one, but two ways to approach and understand the intricacies of sailing. This dual approach, allowing us to explore and choose what worked best for us, made our learning experience so much more enjoyable and tailored to our individual needs.

Wow ! What a wonderful experience with Mark and his lovely wife Sharon, a very experience crew. Mark is extremely knowledgeable and professional, always very calm, and has an excellent ability to transfer his knowledge. I am from Montreal Canada and french speaking, and thought not being fully bilingual would be an issue, but Mark made me at ease from day one. I would strongly recommend Captain Mark Noneman to anybody’ who’s serious about improving his sailing skills.
