Rated 5/5 by 97 students
Landfall Sailing was founded in 2005 as part of the Seraph Group on Lake Travis in Austin, Texas and is one of only a handful of schools in the U.S hosting the assessments for the internationally recognized SLC certification required for power and sail by many EU nations. Many of us had our first boating experience on powerboats but became fascinated with sailing. Sailing offers a lifelong learning opportunity, is quiet and environmentally-friendly, technically challenging, not entirely fuel dependent therefore offers unlimited range, is cost effective and enables adventures associated with bareboat chartering in exciting destinations. We are not solely focused on issuing stickers or certifications without also assuring that our students develop documented, tangible, verified, practical skills recognized by major charter companies worldwide. We tailor your classes to your schedule and limit our classes to 2 students Contact us today at www.landfallsailing.com/contact/ for yo

I really enjoyed my two days with Bruce and learned so much. Although I have done quite a bit of sailing over the years, this was my first formal interaction with a sailing instructor...and it was really well worth it. Bruce has a very calm, patient and professional demeanor (and a FANTASTIC boat that is kept in pristine condition in a stunningly beautiful marina). He really focused our time on topics that were tailored to my knowledge deficits and concerns. This was a very personalized experience geared to help me...not a one-size-fits-all approach...and I really appreciated that. I highly recommend Bruce for anyone wanting to step up their sailing knowledge and skills with an enthusiastic instructor who is passionate about sailing and about helping you improve.

What a breath of fresh air from a world-class sailing instructor!!! Bruce works quickly with you to understand where your competency and strengths lie and where he can come along side you to support your-long term learning and safety as well as your short-term successful completion of the exam. Even from a sailor with over 30 years of experience on boats from 10-60 feet in length, I found the extra day spent with Bruce incredibly valuable. It helped to identify and bolster knowledge gaps/blind spots here and there I can work on to make my trips more enjoyable and safer for my friends and clients. His knowledge is as wide as it is deep and I learned some neat tricks and different approaches I will certainly use. His teaching style is delicate yet supportive. His professionalism and approach is second to none. Thank you for the time, knowledge and care Bruce--I hope to see you out in the Med or Caribbean soon!!!

During the course and the prerequisite courses, you realize that there is a lot to learn about sailing a 30-plus foot yacht. Bruce patiently repeats key parts such as the boat's electrical switches at the dock and out on the water so that they become committed to memory. For me, Bruce's approach to backing the boat into the dock was easier to implement than the prerequisite readings suggested.

Bruce is an outstanding instructor. I have learnt a lot with him. He is patient and very detailed. He has a lot of experience to share and a lot of tips that I will be able to apply on my boat. I am looking forward to sailing again with him somewhere in the Caribbean. Thank You! Thank you Bruce for everything!

Bruce at Landfall sailing was a real pleasure to work with and took the time to understand my skillset, experience and needs to work with me on a training session, and SLC evaluation. That made the difference, we spent time on my weaknesses, and I learned a lot, and had fun! That's the most important, even though it was two cold days, we made the best of it, and Bruce and I became fast friends! If you need someone to teach, and help you meet your goals, go to Landfall sailing. DL, Denver Colorado

I drove across three states to spend two days with Captain Schwaegel for a review day followed by my assessment day. This was after my spending over two months of evenings studying the NauticEd curriculum. The level of effort I put into it was equaled by the positive preparation and effort put forward by Captain Schwaegel. Ahead of our meeting, he made himself available and was reasonably prompt in his replies to my questions and organizing our meeting. I am deeply appreciative to him for his professional work helping me. Thank you!
