Level IV Captain Rank Chief Sailing Instructor / Assessor

Captain J's father was a lobster fisherman. Even while fulfilling his mother's ambitions, that he become an architect, Captain J always kept a toe in the water. As the years passed Captain J's foot kept getting wetter. After finding a like-minded First Mate, Captain J sold the house, and moved to a sailboat, where the couple raised two children while island hopping the Caribbean. At the children's request "we want to be normal", we returned to civilization (a misnomer).

Captain Diaz was excellent. I was tired from work and travel and nervous about how the test would go. Captain Diaz relaxed me and did not rush me which allowed me to settle most of my anxiety. The test was remarkable comprehensive of the course material covering all the areas covered. Captain Diaz's boat was immaculate and handled beautifully, with his warning of some pulls on the wheel in steering, All and all, I was impressed with the "system" from captain, to boat, to location, to the comprehensive nature of the examination process. I would give Captain Diaz, 5 of 5 stars on his performance and professionalism.

Captain Diaz was a gem! Friendly, competent, tactful. We practiced maneuvers on his immaculate Catalina 380 sailboat. When we reviewed the engine and impeller changes, his boats engine was clean as a whistle!

very knowledgeable, patient and never felt rushed. Capt Diaz took his time to clearly went over the tasks, pros and cons of different situations and shared several tips he gathered over his long and extensive sailing experience. His boat is in impeccable condition and access is excellent, centrally located and Biscayne Bay a great place to sail.

I had a great time with Instructor Joaquin Diaz, he was thorough, very knowledgeable, and friendly. His boat was kept meticulously clean and in perfect working order. Joaquin did a great job explaining what was expected and gave a good explanation of how his boat worked. The boat was responsive and I learned a lot about boat handling in reverse. I will be more competent handling our own sail boat.
